Our task was to develop the product catalogue, combining our design expertise with the client’s control over the data. This involved creating an interface to the data system, implementing automated data entry and developing a modular layout system.
SALOMON FoodWorld – When the catalogue updates itself
Following a successful rebranding, SALOMON FoodWorld needed a product catalog that reflected its new style. However, the real challenge lay elsewhere: managing hundreds of products with constantly changing data—packaging units, preparation instructions, allergens, and nutritional information. Traditional catalog production usually entails manual data maintenance, error-prone revision cycles, and months-long update processes. But not with us! While the client’s PIM system contained all the necessary ingredients, the underlying data was unbalanced—featuring outdated product information, missing details, and new regulatory requirements. At the same time, the catalog had to be produced in six different languages. The question wasn't just how to dish up 160 pages, but how to create a system that allowed for easy updates and was built for the future.
The breakthrough came with the use of the EasyCatalog plug-in and the automatic conversion of data into Excel lists – thanks to the coding capabilities of Anthrophic’s Claude.
The direct connection to the customer’s product information management (PIM) system enabled the automated generation of data and updating of catalogue pages.
Straight from the data server to the plate. Not only did this look appetising, it also sped up all work processes.
Minor changes to the data system meant the entire catalogue was quickly updated. For the international versions, we added ChatGPT scripts for automated translations. The result: significant time savings on data entry and corrections. Magic in the kitchen and more freedom for creative work.
Then the catalogue finally went to press. First in German, then in five other languages. The real benefit is the automated system with direct data integration: SALOMON FoodWorld now manages catalogue updates independently, eliminating errors caused by manual data entry. What used to take weeks is now done in a matter of hours. Automation has transformed a static print product into a dynamic communication tool. Yummy.
